Thursday was a bountiful recruiting day for USC baseball coach Mark Kingston as two highly regarded prospects in the 2020 class announced commitments to the Gamecocks, OF Josh Shuler (6-2 200) of Suwanee, GA and SS/RHP Lukas Cook (6-3 205) of Knoxville, TN.
Here’s a Perfect Game scouting report on Shuler from June:
His very advanced plate approach is extremely sound, and he creates easy bat speed with a fluid swing. Shuler is uber-athletic at 6-foot-2 with a strong, muscular build, and looks as if he is simply playing in the wrong league, a total mismatch for the opposition.
Shuler also plays football for North Gwinnett High School.
Cook decommitted from Mississippi State earlier this month. Here’s a Perfect Game scouting report on him from June:
Two-way talent Lukas Cook has a lot of strength in all facets of his game, with impressive arm strength, exit velocity, and raw power through the point of impact. The 6-foot-3/205-pound prospect is surprisingly agile for his size, a 6.7 60-yard dash runner, and runs his fastball up to 92 mph with good life and the hitting tools jump off the page.
