Austin Peay proved to be a tough customer for Clemson over the weekend. The Tigers needed a lead off home run from Grayson Byrd in the 11th inning for a 3-2 win on Sunday and a series victory. The Governors won Friday night 6-3 and the Tigers bounced back Saturday 10-1. Add in wins over Florida State Monday and Western Carolina Wednesday and the Tigers had a 4-1 week that puts them at 39-13 and with an 11 RPI.
Catcher Kyle Wilkie was on fire at the plate during the week. He batted .579 extending his hitting streak to 18 games and raising his team best average to .310. He also reached base four other times on walks and a hit by pitch.
Shortstop Logan Davidson also had a big week for the Tigers hitting .429 with 3 homers and 8 RBIs. He extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
Seth Beer also had 3 home runs and 6 RBIs for the week and leads the team with 16 round trippers.
The Tigers are now batting .255 as a team and have hit 79 homers.
On the mound, Brooks Crawford had a great outing in Saturday’s win over Austin Peay allowing 1 run on 4 hits and striking out 10 in 6.2 winnings. Jake Higgenbotham also pitched well in two starts allowing just 8 hits and 2 earned runs. And relievers Ryan Miller, Carson Spiers, Ryley Gilliam, Spencer Strider and Ryne Huggins pitched 17.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Miller leads the staff with a 2.80 ERA. He’s 4-1 with 4 saves. The staff has an overall ERA of 3.45.
The Tigers play at Kennesaw State on Tuesday. They defeated the Owls 9-4 at Doug Kingsmore April 24th. From there they head to Pitt for their final three regular season games Thursday thru Saturday.
