The Clemson Tigers handed Wake Forest its first ACC sweep in Winston-Salem in two years, winning Friday night 7-5, Saturday 4-3, and 9-4 Sunday afternoon.
Seth Beer returned to form with a five-hit, three RBI weekend, and Clemson received a big push of offense from backstop Kyle Wilkie who added six hits and five driven in.
Clemson’s bullpen also starred this weekend, pitching nine scoreless innings the first two days of the series. After Travis Marr and Carson Spiers gave up four combined runs in on Sunday, Ryley Gilliam pitched the final 2 and 2/3 innings without allowing a run to close out the sweep of the Demon Deacons.
The Tigers earned their first road ACC sweep of the year, and the first at Wake Forest since 2005.
The sweep came after the week began on a sour note with a 6-1 loss at Georgia, giving the Bulldogs a season sweep of the two games between them.
Head Coach Monte Lee seemed encouraged by the performance, which keeps Clemson within a game of first-place NC State in the ACC Atlantic Standings.
