The South Carolina Board of Trustees approved a number of measures relating to Gamecocks Athletics during its scheduled board meeting on Friday.
The Board approved a measure that permits South Carolina’s five assistant coaches under multi-year contracts the ability to leave USC for a Head Coaching position without being subject to a buyout. This measure applies to Defensive Coordinator Travaris Robinson, Offensive Coordinator Bryan McClendon, Defensive Line Coach Lance Thompson, Offensive Line Coach Eric Wolford and Quarterbacks Coach Dan Werner. USC Athletics Director Ray Tanner said it’s a move “that makes common sense” for all parties involved.
Tanner also reported to the board that the construction of the football practice facility is on time, on budget and the team should be ready to move into the building fully by the start of the 2019 calendar year.
A couple of other measures included the one-year extensions of Men’s Basketball assistants Perry Clark and Chuck Martin, as well as a one-year extension and raise for Women’s Basketball Associate Head Coach Lisa Boyer.
Tanner also proposed and received approval of a longevity incentive bonus for Women’s Basketball Head Coach Dawn Staley. If Staley remains the Head Coach at USC through the 2022 season, Staley will collect $1.5 million, paid out by the university into a trust.
South Carolina’s Athletic Director spoke to SportsTalk’s Will Palaszczuk on some of these motions and other things related to Gamecocks athletics, below:
