South Carolina Gamecocks leading scorer and rebounder Chris Silva will test the professional basketball waters this offseason by submitting his name for consideration for the NBA Draft.
Silva was a first team All-SEC player, scoring 14.3 points per game and grabbing eight rebounds per contest during a South Carolina season that fell short of the fanbase’s expectations following an NCAA Final Four appearance during the prior season.
In a statement provided by USC Athletics, South Carolina Head Coach Frank Martin said, “Chris’ work on the court has earned him the respect of everyone in the SEC, and also of people in the NBA. With the opportunity to declare, he will be able to gather more information and get a feel for what the NBA’s opinions of him are. We are excited for Chris and that the rules allow him the opportunity to test the waters.”
The rising senior will not hire an agent, to preserve his final year of NCAA eligibility, and can return to school if he withdraws his name from draft consideration by May 30th.
