The 21st edition of the Carolinas All Star Classic basketball games, and the first staged in Wilmington, NC, was a split decision. The South Carolina girls won their game 76-70 and the North Carolina boys were victorious in their game 123-108. The games were played in front of a standing room only crowd at Hoggard High School.
Quin Byrd of Hillcrest led the South Carolina girls in scoring with 14 points. Amari Young of North Augusta had 13 points and 12 rebounds and D’Asia Gregg of Wilson added 13 points. Young was named the game’s MVP.
South Carolina has now won two of the last three in the series but trails overall 12-9.
Jermaine Patterson of Bluffton led the SC Boys in scoring with 32 points. Shaq Davis of Summerville added 12 points. North Carolina was led in scoring by Jayden Gardner and Adrian Delph with 26 points each.
North Carolina has won four of the last five meetings and now leads the overall series 14-7.
