Syracuse’s Oshae Brissett blocked Tigers guard Marcquise Reed’s game-tying layup attempt, as the Orange kept their NCAA Tournament hopes alive with a 55-52 win over Clemson.
Despite the loss, Clemson got the help it needed to finish no worse than fourth place in the conference standings, ensuring they won’t play until the quarterfinal round of the ACC Tournament Thursday.
Reed finished with a game-high 21 points, and Elijah Thomas added 18, but the Tigers center was embroiled in controversy after a questionable foul call with 3:19 to play which tied the game at 50.
Brissett and Tyus Battle each finished with 17 points to lead Syracuse.
Clemson finishes as the #4 seed in the ACC Tournament and will play the winner of the second round game between NC State and the Georgia Tech/Boston College winner at 2 PM on Thursday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. The 4th-place finish is the highest seeding for the Tigers under Head Coach Brad Brownell.
