OL Xavier Truss (6-7 325) of Warwick, RI is big, both in stature and reputation. He has a boatload of major offers counting Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan State, Tennessee, Penn State, Florida, Arkansas, Florida State and LSU among them. He’s making a trip this week through the Southeast and was at Clemson Wednesday.
“The first character I met was Coach Caldwell. He’s a great guy. I loved hanging out with him for a little while,” Truss said. “The staff, they’re all great people and getting to know them was pretty cool. It’s a smaller school that I expected and that’s something I enjoyed about being there and how football is such a big part of the community there. And their stress on the classroom, your success in the classroom, was really important to me.”
Caldwell told Truss he likes him as a left tackle and while he still has some things to work on, he sees a lot of natural ability in him.
“He likes my feet and my size obviously,” Truss said. “The stuff that he stressed is there’s more to work on. But he thinks I would fit right at left tackle for him.”
Dabo Swinney was out of town so Truss did not get a chance to see him, but he did see all the facilities and was impressed with them all, especially the weight room.
Truss left Clemson and went to Georgia Thursday. He will also spend Friday in Athens before heading to Alabama Saturday, Auburn Sunday and Penn State Monday.
Truss said his top five now consists of Clemson, Ohio State, Penn State, Alabama and Georgia. He will take his official visits in the fall and Clemson will get one of those. He will sign early but he will not be an early grad.
