South Carolina basketball coach Frank Martin received a $25,000 fine from the Southeastern Conference after he made comments about the conference’s officiating assignments following the Gamecocks to Florida.
Martin directed his ire at Lee Cassell, who awarded the USC coach with a technical foul in the first half on Saturday.
In his postgame comments, Martin objected to Cassell’s assigment from the SEC, saying he “turned his back on the conference he started with”.
Cassell, who also worked South Carolina’s game against UTEP in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, has worked six games involving SEC teams this season compared to nine ACC assignments.
Unlike football officials who are tied to one conference, college basketball officials work as regional independent contractors and can work for multiple conferences during the season.

Martin and the Gamecocks resume play on Tuesday at 9 PM when they visit Tennessee.
