USC coach Will Muschamp closed his Signing Day work with a bang landing Shrine Bowler DL Rick Sandidge of Concord, NC in a battle with his good friend and Georgia head coach Kirby Smart. Sandidge also had North Carolina in his final three.
Sandidge did not mess around with his announcement. As soon as he was given the go, he quickly revealed his choice of the Gamecocks.
“I feel at home,” Sandidge said. “Getting to play early and having a good relationship with the coaches (were reasons for his decision). And I’m a priority. Coach Muschamp was happy about it, really.
Sandidge was one of North Carolina’s dominating defensive players in the Shrine Bowl victory last December. He had 5 tackles with 2 tackles for loss and a sack. That kind of performance was something his coach Glenn Padgett had grown accustomed to.
‘He’s big and long and explosive and he’s got a motor,” Padgett said. “All of those things combined will bode well for him. He works hard in the weight room. He has the tangibles and the intangibles. He’s a three technique, a four when they go to a big front. He has quick hands and feet, all the things you look for, a prototypical defensive lineman.
Sandidge gives Muschamp 22 in his 2018 class, so there’s room for more, with one spot being held for DB Bryce Thompson of Dutch Fork who is still working on academic issues before he can sign.
