Clemson and USC combined to sign 35 recruits on NSD1 December 20th. Today for the second National Signing Day for the 2018 recruiting season, the two may combine for five if things fall their way. Here’s a preview of the day ahead and my predictions on decisions.
DB Mario Goodrich of Lees Summit, MO will announce live on KCWE TV29 in nearby Kansas City. He originally committed to Nebraska but opened things back up after the coaching change. His decision came down to Clemson, Georgia and LSU. Korn’s Kall.…CLEMSON.
DB Trevon Flowers of Tucker, GA, a former Kentucky baseball signee, got a late rush from Clemson and Tennessee who want him as a safety, as well as a baseball player. He took official visits to both last week. The Vols Jeremy Pruitt has made an extra concerted effort in recruiting him with calls this week and Flowers seemed impressed by the future of that program. Korn’s Kall…..TENNESSEE.
10:00 AM on ESPNU
DB Patrick Surtain of Plantation, FL made an official visit to Clemson in late January but the Tigers never gained any traction with him. LSU, Alabama and Miami were his other official visits. Korn’s Kall.…LSU.
DL John Mincey of Homerville, GA was an Arkansas commitment until the coaching change there. He quickly focused on USC and Tennessee and took official visits to both. Both sides made a strong push for him last week with USC coaches Lance Thompson and Travaris Robinson getting the final visit. Korn’s Kall….USC.
LB Dax Hollifield of Shelby, NC had been planning to choose from Stanford, Virginia Tech and North Carolina until Clemson jumped back in last week. The Tigers were his first offer but stopped recruiting him after landing two other linebackers. But some late program defections opened room and the Tigers came back. Too little, too late or just in time? Korn’s Kall….VIRGINIA TECH.
1:00 pm on ESPN2
WR Justyn Ross of Phenix City, AL is considered the top prospect in his state, and Alabama and Auburn have done all they can do to keep in home. Clemson is the third player impressed him greatly on his multiple visits. The Tigers have tried to sell him on being their next great receiver. Who wouldn’t want to catch three years of passes from Trevor Lawrence? Korn’s Kall…..CLEMSON.
DL Rick Sandidge of Concord, NC narrowed his decision to USC and Georgia. This would appear to be an open and shut case for USC since Sandidge’s mother is a graduate and he went to four Gamecock games last season. Will Muschamp made him a priority and handled much of the recruiting himself. But Georgia’s great season and now lofty status has been strongly appealing. Korn’s Kall…..USC.
OL Richard Gouraige of Tampa has been a Florida commitment thru the coaching change but continued to check out other programs. He took official visits to Clemson, Ole Miss, Auburn and Florida. Dabo Swinney and his assistants impressed Gouraige and gave him something else to strongly consider. Korn’s Kall….FLORIDA.
Other announcements to follow today include LB Jaylen Moody of Conway (Alabama, Ole Miss & Arkansas at 10:00 AM) and DB/WR Steven Gilmore of South Pointe. On Friday, Florence native DE Dorian Gerald plans to make his announcement with Texas A&M, Louisville, Florida, Arkansas and Texas Tech the finalists.
