The South Carolina Gamecocks have awarded football coach Will Muschamp a new six-year contract which will make him $4.7 million on average over the life of the deal.
Muschamp will make $4.2 million during the 2018 season, with his guaranteed compensation gradually increasing to $5.2 million by the 2023 campaign. The contract includes incentives for bowl games, trips to the SEC Championship along with various coaching awards and academic progress achievements for his players.
The Gamecocks also announced the promotion of Kyle Krantz as Muschamp’s 10th Assistant to coach nickelbacks, strong-side linebackers and help with Special Teams. Krantz spent the last two seasons as an analyst with the Gamecocks and will add on-field and recruiting responsibilities with his promotion.
If the university were to terminate Muschamp without cause, they would owe him 75 percent of his remaining guaranteed compensation. He has a $4 million buyout if he wants to leave before the end 2018, decreasing to $3.5 million in 2019, $3 million in 2020 and $1 million in 2021 and 2022.
Muschamp also announced the addition of Marcus Lattimore back to the program as the Director of Player Development. Lattimore will serve in an off-field role helping out players with their life beyond football.
