DE KJ Henry (6-5 220) of Clemmons, NC gave Clemson the cherry on top of it’s 15 member recruiting class Wednesday afternoon picking the Tigers over USC, Georgia, Virginia Tech and Alabama. The Shrine Bowl took official visits to all the schools accept Alabama and spent the last few days at home after returning from Spartanburg sorting thru all the pros and cons of each before finalizing his decision on the Tigers.“Making sure my family was close and able to see me and another big one was how the coaches treated me throughout the process,” Henry said in explaining why he picked Clemson. “Coach Swinney and is staff are class act guys. What you see in front of the camera is the same thing you see behind it.”
Henry said he he knew about four days ago Clemson might be the place for him and he just took a little extra time to make sure his feelings were right. He said the only people who knew his plans were his father and his coach, leaving his mother out of the loop.
At Clemson Henry will join a defensive line already considered the best in the country and now will also include Xavier Thomas, Justin Mascoll and Darnell Jefferies.
“Very excited,” Henry said. “I know they will make me a better player and the program will make me a better person. Just being a part of that group I definitely want to represent it well. I’m very ecstatic.”
Henry also said having the chance to play for Brent Venables was a pick part of his decision.
“It went big time with my decision. Hearing him say he’s going to be solid (at Clemson) and his son’s coming for the next four years in my class was big for me. The energy he brings to the game. I know my game and I when I get turned up I’m ready to go and he’s definitely a guy who can turn me up. I think we’ll mend well together.”
