He walked in to his announcement ceremony wearing a Florida State tee-shirt and walked out with signed letter-of-intent with USC. With that the Gamecocks landed their own Signing Day surprise in LB Rosendo Louis (6-2 240) of Deerfield Beach, FL.
Louis had been committed to Florida State since August but the coaching change there opened the door for the Gamecocks and Will Muschamp took advantage to land one of the top linebackers in the country. Louis made his official visit to USC last weekend and that gave Muschamp his opportunity to convince Louis to join him.
“Muschamp told me if I’m scared to be a true freshman, don’t come to South Carolina,” Louis said. “I can be a great leader and have an impact there, told me I can come in, put in the work and the time and play as a true freshman. I can be a run stopper on first and second (down) and I can rush the quarterback on third and fourth.”
Louis said the Gamecocks see him as a big linebacker in the middle of their defense and his coach believes he will fit right in.
“He’s a throwback linebacker with an old school mentality and plays sideline to sideline,” said Javon Glenn.
Louis becomes the second linebacker and the 23rd new commitment for the 2018 class.
