The Clemson Tigers improved to 9-1 with a signature victory over the #22 Florida Gators, 71-69, in Sunrise, Florida Saturday night.
Elijah Thomas’ dunk with 37 seconds left in the game gave the Tigers their first lead since the opening four minutes of the game and the Tigers made the requisite free throws down the stretch to hold on.
Marcquise Reed led the Tigers with 22 points, while Gabe DeVoe poured in 19 for Clemson who shot 51 percent from the field.
Jalen Hudson led Florida with 23, and Chris Chiozza, the hero from Gators’ Sweet 16 win in New York last year, added 14.
The win for the Tigers is the third non-conference victory over a ranked foe in Brad Brownell’s tenure, the last one coming against #22 South Carolina last year. Saturday’s victory also marked the 300th career victory for Brownell as a Head Coach.
The Tigers (9-1) come home riding high looking to get their second straight win over the Gamecocks (8-2) Tuesday night at Littlejohn Coliseum at 7 PM.
