The North All Stars ran their winning streak to three in the Touchstone Energy Bowl Saturday afternoon defeating the South All Stars 24-12 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium. And at halftime Fort Dorchester quarterback Dakereon Joyner was named Mr. Football in South Carolina for 2017.
The North built a 17-3 lead late in the second quarter off of a 46 yard touchdown pass from Dre Yarbough to Coleman Smith, a four yard touchdown run by DJ Twitty, and a 37 yard field goal by Cliff Gandis. The South’s only first half points came on field goals of 43 and 26 yards by Taete McMurray.
The South took the second half kickoff and kept the ball for over seven minutes with an 80 yard 15 play drive capped by a four yard pass from Craig Grand Jr. to Keon Clary. The failed two point conversion left the North with a 17-12 advantage.
The North answered with its own long drive of 74 yards in 10 plays with Jordan Morgan tossing a 5 yard scoring pass to Steven Gilmore Jr.
The South had three four quarter possessions but never got closer than the North 33 yard line as those possessions ended with a punt, a fumble and a turnover on downs.

This season Joyner passed for 2376 yards and rushed for 980 yards while totaling 49 touchdowns. For his career he totaled over 13,000 yards and 157 touchdowns.
He will play in the Shrine Bowl next week and sign with USC later this month. He’s the 9th quarterback to win the award.
Another highlight of the week was Thursday’s visit to a Myrtle Beach Target store where each player had a $100 gift card to share with a local child on a holiday shopping spring.
Here’s a few of the highlights of that trip as caught on video by Van O’Cain of the Touchstone Electric Cooperatives.
And in case you missed it, here’s our roll call of players videoed following practice earlier in the week:
