Hassani Gravett’s driving layup and drawn foul helped the South Carolina Gamecocks defeat Coastal Carolina, 80-78, Saturday afternoon.
The basket and ensuing free throw ended a maddening day for USC, who continued to struggle to score on the Chanticleers’ zone defense combined with their own offensive lethargy.
Coastal Carolina, the 10th-best team in the country in rebounding margin boxed out the Gamecocks by two, but could not translate to good offense. The Chanticleers scored just 11 points in the final nine minutes.
Frank Booker led the Gamecocks in scoring with 19, while former Gamecock Jaylen Shaw had 17 points for Coastal Carolina.
South Carolina now has ten days without a game, a period Head Coach Frank Martin says they desperately need:

Coastal Carolina drops to 5-5, and while Cliff Ellis was happy with effort, he knows the Chanticleers missed a golden opportunity:

South Carolina (8-2) will not play again until December 19th, when they travel to Clemson to try and avenge last year’s home loss to the Tigers.
