The South Carolina Gamecocks couldn’t draw on last year’s experience at Madison Square Garden as they fell, 76-60, Thursday to the Temple Owls.
Playing in “The World’s Most Famous Arena” for the first time since clinching their Final Four berth against Florida, the Gamecocks struggled against the Owls shooting just 36 percent from the field.
South Carolina also failed to convert on its opportunities beyond the arc, shooting 6-of-22 from beyond three.
David Beatty carried the mail for South Carolina on offense, as Chris Silva had a night to forget with just five points and six of the Gamecocks’ 18 turnovers.
Temple earned a season-sweep of the Power Five schools in the Palmetto State, having beaten Clemson 67-60 earlier in November’s Charleston Classic championship game.
The Gamecocks will try to regroup with a quick turnaround Saturday when they host UMass Saturday afternoon at Colonial Life Arena.
