For the second time this year, Will Muschamp had to break unfortunate news about a player that is as important to his football team as any.
On his Sunday evening teleconference, Muschamp declared Deebo Samuel “out for the season” after he sprained his foot last week during his rehab from a fractured ankle.
Samuel quickly put to bed any speculation about his future, saying on his personal Twitter account he will return for his senior year for “one more ride”.
The injury bug also hit the defensive side of the football, as Gamecocks DT Taylor Stallworth is questionable for the Florida game recovering from a head injury suffered against Georgia.
As for his thoughts on Saturday’s 24-10 loss, Muschamp said the offense was beaten too much at the point of attack, and the defense allowed too many yards after first contact with Georgia’s backs and receivers.
The Gamecocks will play a reeling Florida Gators team on Saturday, who got blown out by Missouri, 45-16, this past weekend. The 3-5 Gators have Randy Shannon at the helm, serving as the interim coach for the departed Jim McElwain.
