DE KJ Henry of Clemmons, NC has checked three official visits off his list thus far with two more two go leading up to his commitment announcement December 20th. Henry has visited Clemson, Georgia and Virginia Tech. He will visit USC for the Florida weekend and will make Alabama his final stop.
Henry’s official visit to Clemson was last weekend for the Georgia Tech game. He had been to Clemson several times before but Henry said this visit was a little different.
“This time they really put down the red carpet for me and my family, just the experience of getting that family welcome, the staff and all the players, it went well. When it comes to them, what I look for most is consistency since I’ve been there so many times. You just get that great feeling and you just hope that they can keep that up every time you go down there and sure enough, going back down there I got that same feeling again.”
While on this visit to Clemson Henry met up again with Clemson commitments including fellow defensive end Xavier Thomas. Being teamed with other quality players is something Henry is factoring in as he goes from school to school.
“Thru this process you definitely not only want to see the success you’ll have as a football player but who you are going to be surrounding yourself with when the years come,” Henry said. “Knowing that Xavier is committed there is obviously something I’ve known. Getting to see Trevor Lawrence, I know him very well. Getting that feel for guys that are committed, you can put yourself in that spot of if I’m comfortable with these guys and playing with these guys.”
USC gets its shot with Henry next. Will Muschamp has made him a personal recruiting target and Henry is looking forward to his return trip to Columbia.
“In some ways they are kind of like Clemson, they are very genuine and great to my family so I’m just looking for that consistency,” he said. “But at the same time, I feel their need for defensive linemen is a little bit more than at Clemson…just to be able to talk with them and get more in depth and more specific about where they see me in their defense and what I can do to help them be successful in the next couple of years.”
After the last official visit to Alabama, Henry said he plans to have as many in home visits with the coaches as he can. Then, he and his family will sit down one night over dinner and hash out the pros and cons of each school until a decision is reached.
“The last visit is when I’ll definitely start thinking about it harder, but to know for sure will probably come when I have that family dinner type talk,” Henry said adding that he’s not planning to let anyone outside the family know the decision until he announces it December 20th. “I’m applying to all five for that exact reason that (right now) I don’t know (the school). It will be a quick turnaround from December 20th to mid-January. I’ll have to apply and have everything in for each school.” Henry will be an early enrollee.
Henry will play in the Shrine Bowl in December as well as the Under Armour All American Game.
