DB Jaycee Horn of Alpharetta, GA had a feeling all along that Clemson would offer him. That feeling turned into reality this week when the Tigers made their offer. Horn has been committed to Tennessee since the summer and his current position is that he’s 100% with the Vols despite the turmoil in Knoxville, but he is still looking at other options. That’s why he continues to take visits this season including stops last month at Clemson and USC.
Horn said Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables and safeties coach Mickey Conn contacted him about the offer and they talked for about 45 minutes about how they would use him in their defense.
“They won the nation championship so I know they are one of the top programs, if not the top program in the nation,” Horn said. “They’ve got a good thing going and they’ve got a good 2018 recruiting class. I just think they are on the rise and are just a great team. They like my versatility to be able to play different positions on the back end.”
Last weekend Horn went to Tennessee for the Georgia game and this weekend he’s going to Auburn. He does not have any other unofficial visits set but he plans to get back to Clemson and USC for games. The Gamecocks were his second choice when he committed to Tennessee and they remain on his trail.
“I hear from them every day,” he said. “Mostly T-Rob (Travaris Robinson). I’m going to take all my officials and South Carolina and Tennessee will definitely get one.”
Horn witnessed one of Tennessee’s worst home losses ever last Saturday and the the Vol fans have been howling. He’s also also seen where some of the commitments have reopened their recruiting. But he said all the negativity around Butch Jones right now does not affect his commitment.
“Everybody is saying Coach Jones won’t be there next year and things like that,” Horn said. “I have a close relationship with all the coaches. Right now I’m a hundred percent committed to Coach Jones. I’m been talking to t them quite a bit and I know they still believe in me and that’s always a big thing.”
