USC women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley had a bevy of highly regarded recruits on campus last weekend for official visits. She, of course, has much to sell these days as the reigning national championship coach and future Olympic team coach. That’s just part of what impressed 5-11 Christyn Williams of Little Rock, AR.
“My weekend went great,” Williams said. “We (recruits) had so much fun bonding with not only us but with the players and coaching staff as well. I loved the campus size, not too big , not too small. The facilities were really nice too. The atmosphere from the fans for women’s basketball at the football game was crazy, so I can’t even imagine during basketball season.”
Williams also had praise for Staley and the culture she has built around her program.
“I love Dawn,” she said. “She can relate to us from a player’s standpoint and I think that’s very pivotal to relationships between her and her players. We loved it. It’s a fair ball game as I still try to figure out what’s the best school for me.”
As for how much the visit may have improved USC’s positioning with her, Williams said, “I can’t tell you that.”
Williams also has visited UCLA and has visits the next three weekends to Tennessee, Texas and Connecticut before rendering her decision.
