DB Steven Gilmore Jr. of South Pointe is holding steady with his final four of USC, Louisville, Georgia and North Carolina. Gilmore said all four are recruiting him about the same and he doesn’t have a favorite. He said from USC he talks primarily with defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson. Gilmore is planning to attend USC’s opener against NC State in Charlotte and will go to games for his other contenders as well. He is scheduled to announce September 17th.
USC landed a commitment from 6-5 RHP Brett Thomas of Atlanta, the 11th commitment for the 2019 class. Here is a scouting report on Thomas by PerfectGame from a recent performance in late July: “Thomas has an extra large frame on the mound, listed at 6-foot-5 and 220-pounds, and was recently up to 91 mph a couple of days ago during this event. He was up to 88 mph on Saturday and showed an over-the-top release point with a crossfire element to his landing foot. The combination of his arm slot and his height allow him to create excellent downhill plane to both sides of the plate when leveraged to the lower third of the strike zone. Thomas’ confidence in the curveball stood out and the 12-to-6 breaker showed consistent shape and was a good weapon.”
One time USC target DB Mike Hughes of Garden City JC, KS has joined the UCF program according to the UCF fan website Knights247. Hughes had hoped to join the Gamecocks this summer but did not graduate from the junior college in time to do so.
LB Azeez Ojulari of Marietta, GA committed to Georgia Thursday. He had USC and Clemson on his short list.
WR Matthew Hill of Snellville, GA committed to Auburn Thursday. USC was on his short list.
6-10 Riley Battin of Oak Park, CA announced a final four of Davidson, Ohio State, Vanderbilt and Utah. Those will get his official visits. Clemson also was under consideration.
