6-5 Aaron Nesmith of Porter-Gaud will take his first official visit this coming weekend to Vanderbilt. Nesmith is undecided at this point about other official visits from an offer list that includes USC, Clemson, Florida, Providence, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M and Wichita State, Georgia and Boston College. Nesmith is coming off an excellent July and helped lead his TMP team from Charleston to second place in the AAU Super Showcase.
Clemson coach Brad Brownell scouted Nesmith throughout the July camp circuit and last week decided to pull the trigger on an offer, matching the one earlier in the summer from USC’s Frank Martin.
“I was very happy to get it,” Nesmith said. “Another in-state school, ACC, good basketball, good academics, it’s the best of both worlds. I think they are building for the future and I think they can be really good next season and the season’s to come just from what they’re doing and the people they recruit.”
Martin also is keeping in touch with Nesmith.
“He texts me a good bit and he always tells me the plan he has for me and the goals he thinks I can accomplish,” he said. “I enjoy texting coach Martin and talking to him. He’s a joy to talk to. I can’t wait to get back on campus at South Carolina and talk to him in person once again.”
Nesmith said he’s looking at USC for a visit in August or early September. He plans to cut his list down to six schools in the next few days and has some criteria in mind for choosing those six.
“A school that could push me academically and athletically. A school that wants me for me. And a school that I fit into and I can just jump right in,” Nesmith explained.
Nesmith said he’s not sure if USC and Clemson both will get official visits because they are close enough to where he can go unofficially several times. He would like to sign in November if possible.
