Clemson is in a holding pattern with its few remaining 2018 recruiting targets but the Tigers are full steam ahead with a top 2019 target in DL Jacob Lacey (6-2 290) of Bowling Green, KY. He’s not messing around with the recruiting process. He dropped his top six this week and is working expeditiously toward a commitment before his junior season. Lacey camped at Clemson in June and the Tigers are in his final six along with Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Tennessee and Notre Dame.
“I really loved my time at camp this year,” Lacey said. “I was there three days and I loved the overall culture of Clemson. The coaching staff from top to bottom are on the same page. You can tell they care. Coach Bates and I are getting to know each other and he always instills something positive in me during our conversation.”
Lacey also had some time together with head coach Dabo Swinney and he considered that a special moment for him.
“Meeting and talking to Coach Swinney was surreal,” he said. “I think my dad got “Daboed”. He fell head over heals for him. I really like their defensive philosophy . They love my athleticism for my size and said I have violent hands, can bend great also have loose hips. They said me and my family are Clemson people. I love that they are spiritual people and I can get a great education.”
Lacey also has visited Stanford, Louisville, Penn State, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Florida State and Ohio State. This weekend he’s going to Michigan for a second time and he’s hoping to get back to Clemson as well before he makes his decision. That will come no later than the end of September. And right now, the final decision is a tough call for him.
“I’m really praying because whenever I talk to or visit these schools, I can see myself playing there,” Lacey said. But I know what I want and I can only say yes to one school.”
