Clemson coach Brad Brownell reached into California earlier this week with an offer to 6-10 Riley Battin of Oak, Park. The Tigers join Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Utah, Colorado Northwestern and Davidson as some of the programs with offers out to Battin. He has 28 in all. Battin is early in his recruiting process and has yet to focus in on any particular schools. A strong summer performance is generating all this new attention.
“He led the Under Armour All-American Camp in scoring this past week and has had a huge spring and summer including being the leading scorer and rebounder on our 17 and under team that has been ranked has high as #3 in the country,” said coach Justin Downer who works with Battin’s AAU team, the Earl Wilson Elite. “He continues to produce against the top ranked players regardless of class and position.”
Downer said the Clemson offer does stand out to Battin despite the Tigers being all the way across the country from him.
“He’s very excited about an opportunity to play in the ACC and will consider it closely,” he said. “He hasn’t looked into narrowing down his recruitment and won’t start focusing in on anything until August. Coach (Lucas) McKay has been communicating with him for a few months so the offer comes as no surprise to Riley. He’s looking to narrow down to 5-8 schools in mid-August and schedule official visits.”
Downer said Battin is an excellent scorer in the blocks but is also very good at coming down the floor as a trailer and hitting a deep three. And he’s a very good passer out of the post.
