As the College sports season winds down, SportsTalkSC will invite beat writers who cover the opponents of USC and Clemson to weigh in on the 2017 football season. SportsTalk reached the Raleigh News and Observer sports reporter Joe Giglio to preview the N.C. State Wolfpack as they prepare for USC in the season opener and later against Clemson.
Listen to the full interview with Joe Giglio on SportsTalk:
N.C. State will return four out of five on their offensive line which will help them solidify a strong offense behind junior QB Ryan Finley. Giglio believes that this is a make or break year for Finley showing both very good moments but at times had trouble making easy plays. If Finley can transition from a consistent caretaker into a player that can make plays and beat opponents then the Wolfpack will climb the ladder in the ACC. Giglio says look out for running back Nyhiem Hines to have a break out year.
Giglio believes that only Clemson has a better defense front seven than the Wolfpack. N.C. State will return leaders like senior DE Bradley Chubb who has 34 tackles for loss and 16 sacks in his college career and sophomore DE Darian Roseboro. The most glaring weakness of the Wolfpack defense is in the secondary. DC Dave Huxtable will need to replace three starters in the secondary. Former starting cornerback Jack Tocho safety Josh Jones were drafted in the first round of the NFL draft.
