Clemson’s 2018 recruiting class will be small in number but large in star power, especially out of the state of Georgia. Monday night the Tigers landed another prize prospect from the Peach State in DL Darnell Jefferies (6-3 265) of Covington. He’s the third highly recruited player from the state to pick the Tigers for the ’18 class joining QB Trevor Lawrence of Cartersville and DE Justin Mascoll of Snellville. His commitment gives the Tigers 10 for the class.
Jefferies was no stranger around Clemson during the process leading up to his commitment. He visited four times going back to last season and those visits gave him plenty of information from which to make his decision.
“I’d be a great fit with them because I fit their defensive scheme very well,” Jefferies said earlier in the spring. “This year coming up they are going to lose two seniors on the defensive line.”
Jefferies had narrowed his list in early May to a final 10 that also included USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Louisville, LSU, Georgia Tech and Oregon.
