6-7 Justin Minaya of Harrington Park, NJ Wednesday night announced his plans to sign with USC and join Frank Martin’s 2017 class. He becomes the 5th member of the class and is coming in as a big guard. Minaya boiled his decision down to USC and Brewster Prep Academy in New Hampshire. He also had major college interest from Seton Hall, Temple and Illinois.
Minaya made an official visit to USC earlier this month and after the visit he had a good feeling that Martin’s program might be a good fit.
“I loved how it was really a family environment and I could see myself fitting in as a big guard who brings a lot of versatility to the team,” Minaya said Wednesday night. “I think it’ll be amazing (playing for Martin). He obviously has been very successful as a coach and I definitely have a lot of trust in him.”
Minaya, who is the son of former New York Mets GM Omar Minaya, averaged 20 points, 11 rebounds, 5 blocks and 3 assists per game last season. He said he will sign his letter of intent on Friday.
