The USC baseball team this weekend is playing a SEC series at Auburn. The Gamecocks opened league play winning five of their first six games despite the absence of closer Tyler Johnson who has been out since the Clemson series with a sore elbow.
There also was some controversy this week when head coach Chad Holbrook relieved hitting coach Brian Buscher of those duties. Buscher, a former Gamecock third baseman, was a volunteer assistant and was in his sixth season in that capacity with the program.
TheBigSpur.com reported there was an incident in the dugout in Sunday’s game with Alabama and apparently some things were said that led to Holbrook’s decision. Administrative assistant Stuart Lake, the former Charleston Southern head coach, will move into the on the field volunteer position.
Thursday on SportsTalk Holbrook addressed both Johnson’s timeline for returning and the Buscher situation.
