ESPN college basketball insider Jeff Goodman is reporting Spartanburg Day standout 6-6 Zion Williamson has a top three of USC, Duke and Kansas. Williamson was interviewed on ESPN’s SportsCenter Thursday night and later Goodman revealed his information obtained from sources he said that indicated the Gamecocks, Blue Devils and Jayhawks sit atop Willamson’s short list. He added Kentucky as a possible fourth on the list.
Williamson attended USC’s home game against Georgia and was constantly recognized by fans who went up to him for pictures and autographs. And the student section, on several occasions, broke into the “We want Zion” chant.
After the game Williamson met with Gamecock head coach Frank Martin and heard the strong pitch from him about representing his home state by staying home.
“Be different, stay in state and change the state of South Carolina, make South Carolina basketball players stay in South Carolina.” Williamson said. “The atmosphere was amazing and I like how hard South Carolina plays defense and I like how they execute on defense.”
However, Williamson’s stepdad Lee Anderson Friday denied shot down Goodman’s report.
“Who is Jeff Goodman?” Anderson responded in a text message asking for confirmation. “Whomever he is, I wouldn’t bet any money on his opinion. I’m sure he needs to find better sources.”
Williamson will be at North Carolina tomorrow for the Duke game. Williamson also has been to Clemson and Kentucky for games this season.
