Clemson offensive lineman Jay Guillermo has overcome a lot to get where he is today. It wasn’t that long ago that a battle with severe depression put his football career in jeopardy. Fortunately, Guillermo found the help he needed to get back on track and 100 percent healthy and ready for a return to the gridiron. He’s flourished since he came back and has become one of the Tigers best players.
Guillermo is one of Clemson’s leaders on and off the field. To find evidence of that you need look no further than his effort to reach out to USC defensive lineman Dante Sawyer after Sawyer tweeted about racial slurs he heard during the game Saturday night. After that conversation Sawyer expressed respect for Guillermo. Guillermo’s move helped ease a tense situation after an intense rivalry game.
Check out the audio link below to listen to what Guillermo had to say about both of those topics, as well as his thoughts on the ACC Championship matchup against Virginia Tech Saturday.
