Martin Truex Jr. won his first Bojangle’s Southern 500 Sunday night becoming the seventh driver in NASCAR history to win the Southern 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 in the same season.
Truex came on late in the race to overcome the strong runs of runner-up Kevin Harvick and third place finisher Kyle Larson. Harvick led the most laps with 214 and directly blamed the performance of his pit crew for not winning.
That was not an issue with the #78 car. Truex’s crew got him out first on the final pit stop of the night on lap 352 and he went on to win by six-tenths of a second. In his previous ten races at Darlington Truex had just one top five finish.
Listen as Truex talks about winning one of NASCAR’s grand jewel races and Harvick rips his pit crew for what he considered another lame performance.
