6-7 Duane Moss of Carolina Forest will be well prepared for his college career when it rolls around after one more season in high school. His father is a former player at Charlotte and a long time college coach currently serving as the associate head coach at Coastal Carolina.
The younger Moss has had a very productive summer and has caught the eye of several coaches including USC’s Frank Martin who liked him enough to offer earlier this summer. He also has offers from Charlotte, Middle Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, New Jersey Tech, Furman, Delaware and Coastal.
With a dad coaching in a highly competitive league like the Sun Belt, many might think Moss is a cinch to become a Chanticleer but he says that’s not the case and he wants to examine all his options.
“My dad being at Coastal always brings up the question if I’m just going to go there and that’s not the case right now,” Moss said. “I’m wide open so other schools are involved. The SEC offer (USC) also expands interests and opens eyes of people I think.”
As for the offer from Martin and the idea of playing for the Gamecocks, Moss said the coach has told him he has the type of game he needs in his program.
“I’m a big wing that can shoot and that’s what they need, more shooting on the team,” Moss said. He said he’s only heard from Clemson thru the mail.
Moss said he’s not sure if he’ll sign early and there is no favorite. He plans to narrow his list at the end of this month.
