Former USC commitment DE Arden Key of Atlanta formally ended his long relationship with the Gamecocks by announcing a commitment to LSU live on Next Level on Fox Sports South. Key twice had committed to USC dating back to June of 2013. And as late as last week he had listed the Gamecocks #1 on his list.
But a late week meeting last week with new LSU defensive assistants Kevin Steele and Ed Orgeron turned Key towards the Bayou Bengals, who were then third on his list behind Auburn, to the point where he not only cancelled a visit to Auburn for last weekend, but had moved past USC as well.
“I feel good, I’m glad this process is over with,” Key said after making the announcement. It’s been a long process. They (LSU) lead the NFL in producing defensive linemen and my dream is to be in the NFL. It’s family oriented and everybody loves you. They welcome you with open arms. Coach Miles, coach Orgeron, Kevin Steele, all of them are some hype guys. They love what they do.”
Key is one of nine former USC commitments who will play for other programs this season. Key will still get the chance to play in Williams-Brice Stadium in 2015. LSU visits Columbia on October 10th.
