OL Trey Derouen (6-3 309) of Lilburn, GA announced a commitment to USC Thursday night giving the Gamecocks their fifth offensive lineman for the class and 31 newcomers to the program. Derouen picked the Gamecocks over Louisville. He once was a Mississippi State commitment and he also considered Florida and Kansas State.
“When I went on my official visit (last weekend) I felt like it was a family,” Derouen said. “I got along with everybody. I loved the facilities. I love coach Spurrier. I love coach Elliott and I want to be coached by them. Gamecock Nation feels right to me. Plus, the academics are top notch.”
The Gamecocks have Derouen penciled in at offensive guard and his coach believes he has a chance to be a successful player in in Columbia.
“He’s very physical and has great size,” Parkview coach Eric Godfree said. “He’s a high character, high quality kid. He makes kids around him better.”
