USC’s 2013 football recruiting class is nearing completion, and it will include at least one running back. Sunday the Gamecocks landed a verbal commitment frmo 2000 yard rusher Jamarri Smith of Neptune Beach, FL.
Smith chose the Gamecocks over Wake Forest and contacted his recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. Sunday afternoon. He later talked to Steve Spurrier. Smith visited USC in March and kept the Gamecocks high up on his list though he had not indicated a strong lean that way until committing.
Smith said he is a north-south type of runner with explosiveness. He had 28 touchdowns last season.
He is USC’s first running back commitment for the class and the Gamecocks may take another with David Williams of Philadelphia the prime target. The Gamecocks now have 19 commitments in the class.
