The two time defending national champion USC baseball team is headed back to Omaha for a third straight season after defeating Oklahoma 5-1 Monday in the completion of a game suspended due to rain Sunday night, to sweep the two game Super Regional in Columbia. The win extends the Gamecocks NCAA Tournament record winning streak to 21 games. They are also now 24-0 in postseason games at Carolina Stadium.

The Gamecocks will take on Florida Saturday in their first game at the CWS. That game is scheduled to start at 9:00 Eastern. The Gamecocks defeated the Gators in last year’s national championship series, but the Gators have won three out of four meetings with the Gamecocks this season.
The game was scoreless when it was resumed in the bottom of the 6th. Tyler Webb went to the mound for the Gamecocks and got out of a bases loaded jam without allowing a run.
The Gamecocks broke thru in the seventh against Oklahoma pitcher Steven Okert. Connor Bright led off with a double and was replaced on the bases by TJ Costen. Tanner English put down a sacrifice bunt that was fielded by first baseman Evan Mistich. He tried to get Costen at third but the throw was wild and Costen scampered home with the first run as English took second. Chase Vergason sacrificed English to third and he later scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 Gamecock lead.

The Sooners came back with a run of their own in the sevneth. Webb walked the leadoff batter Jack Mayfield and was lifted for Evan Beal. Beal then walked Garrett Carey and was replaced by Matt Price. The Sooners then attempted a hit and run with Dante Rosenberg gunning down Mayfield at third. Evan Mistick then singled to score Carey from second for the Sooner’s only run. Price was able to get out of the inning with a strike out and a fly out to left.
The Gamecocks put the game away with a three run 8th inning. With one out, back to back singles by Adam Matthews and LB Dantzler put runners on the corners. English bunted for a hit scoring Matthews for a 3-1 lead. Chase Vergason followed with a double to left center that scored Matthews and Dantzler.
Oklahoma got a runner to second in the bottom of the 8th but he was stranded there. After USC went down in order in the 9th, the Sooners drew a two out walk but Price struck out the final batter and then waited for his teammates to pile on near the mound.
Webb earned the win and improved to 6-1. Webb picked up his 11th save. That’s the 41st save for Price in his career tieing the all time SEC record.
The Gamecocks are 45-17. The Sooners finish their season at 42-25.
