The SCBCA has selected the coaches and players of the year for each class.
Alex Cunningham from Byrnes, who has helped the Rebels get to the state championship series, was selected as AAAA player of the year. Brian Hucks, Lexington High School, was selected as AAAA coach of the year as he led the Wildcats to a deep run in the 4A playoffs.
Fort Mill swept the player of the year and coach of the year categories as Andrew Tomasovich was awarded AAA player of the year, and Brad Mercer was named AAA coach of the year. Fort Mill made it to the state championship series in 3A, where they eventually lost to A.C. Flora.
Connor Owings from Gilbert High School was awarded AA player of the year. Brian Mitchell, Hanahan High School, was named AA coach of the year. Gilbert beat Hanahan in the 2A state championship series 8-3 and 3-2 to win the title.
Zach Boswell, Chesterfield, and Aaron Lesiak, St. Joseph’s, were named 1A co-players of the year. John Barwick, head coach of St. Joseph’s, was named 1A coach of the year. St. Joseph’s beat Chesterfield in the upper state final in 1A and then beat Lamar 4-1 and 13-2 to win the state championship.
