WR Marquez North (6-3 210) of Charlotte has Clemson at the front of his list right now though his coach says he’s not ready to make a final decision. “He’s gathering all the data and just enjoying it right now,” Mike Palmieri said. “He’s taking it all in.” Clemson recruiters were by the school Thursday to check on North who also likes NC State, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and Ohio State among his favorites. Some of his other offers include USC, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Auburn, Florida State and Alabama. USC also has been thru. North has visited Clemson, NC State, North Carolina and Duke. Last season he had 39 catches for 1022 yards and 19 touchdowns, and he rushed for 410 yards and 4 touchdowns. “He is strong, fast and big,” his coach said. “He’s explosive and runs good routes. He’s one of those guys who can go up and get the football.”
USC recruiter Grady Brown was in to check on OL Kyle Schafenacker of Fort Lauderdale, FL earlier in the week as were coaches from Florida State, Duke, Wisconsin, Boston College, Kentucky and Auburn. Schafenacker said Brown will be back to see him in practice next week. “He wants to see me practice and then at a camp and after that he’ll tell me if he will accept a commitment,” Schafenacker said. He plans to camp at USC, Miami and Florida State and will visit SMU and Duke. USC and SMU are his top two and he also likes Cincinnati. “I’m going to wait and see how things to this summer before deciding,” he said. The big tackle has offers from USC, SMU and Cincinnati.
LB Devaris Brunson of Lake City has offers from NC State and East Carolina, and his coach said several recruiters have been by this spring for a look. Coach Jim Rowell said coaches from Clemson, Ohio State, Purdue, NC State and East Carolina have stopped in. USC has not shown much interest according to the coach. Brunson will visit East Carolina, Ohio State, NC State and possibly Clemson this summer. “He’s not in any hurry and would like to have an idea by the beginning of next year,” Rowell said. Brunson has been to Clemson a couple of times and the coach said the Tigers are interested. He said several schools want to see how Brunson progresses academically. Last season Brunson had 174 tackles and 10 sacks.
OL Joey Bloomfield of Louisville has offers from Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming with interest from Clemson, USC, Tennessee, Louisville, Kentucky, Miami, Auburn, Ole Miss, Duke, Maryland and Stanford among others. He plans to camp at Clemson this summer. “Coach (Robbie) Caldwell wants me to come down so he can work with me,” Bloomfield said. “I am very interested in them.” Bloomfield holds the Tigers in high regard. “It’s a great school with great fans and a great environment,” he said. USC has shown interest of late but Bloomfield admitted is has been very recent leaving him unaware of the Gamecocks interest level. He would like to visit Columbia “eventually”. Other than Clemson, he plans to attend a camp at Vanderbilt. “I’ll go to as many camps as I can but, right now, those are the only two that I have scheduled,” said Bloomfield. He plans to visit Colorado, Ole Miss and Duke this summer and named the three schools that have offered him as his favorites.
QB Keith Olsen of Wayne, NJ Friday committed to Miami. Olsen had narrowed his list to a final four of USC, Wisconsin, Auburn and Miami. USC fell out of contention after a commitment from Connor Mitch. Olsen was chosen an Elite 11 quarterback earlier in the month. Last season he passed for 1686 yards and 20 touchdowns. His brother Greg, a tight end with the Panthers, played his college football at Miami.
