USC defeated Alabama 9-1 Saturday afternoon at Carolina Stadium to complete a three game sweep of the Crimson Tide and extend its SEC winning streak to 11 games. The Gamecocks have won their last five league series and are 14-7 in conference play. They will come out of the weekend no worse than tied for second in the SEC East with Florida.

Patrick Sullivan was the emergency starter for the Gamecocks due to the shoulder strain suffered by Colby Holmes Monday. In his first start of the season and the third of is career, Sullivan allowed one run over four innings. Nolan Belcher and Hunter Privette followed Sullivan and allowed just one hit over the final five innings. Belcher earned his second win of the series to improve to 4-2.

The Gamecocks took a 2-0 lead in the first on RBI doubles by Grayson Greiner and Joey Pankake. It was a 4-1 game in the fourth when the Gamecocks scored three times to put the game away. Christian Walker, who pulled his left hamstring stretching for a throw earlier in the game, had an RBI single and then left the game. Pankake had an RBI single and LB Dantzler a sacrifice fly to close out the scoring in the inning. The Gamecocks added two more runs in the 5th and rode their pitching and defense the rest of the way.

The Gamecocks had four extra base hits including Dantzler’s 8th home run of the season.
The Gamecocks play Davidson at home Wednesday night and will be at Arkansas next weekend.
