The Clemson football team returned to the practice field Wednesday following a day break. New defensive coordinator Brent Venables is undergoing his first spring with the Tigers as he tries to institute his new defensive scheme. Venables discussed this process and more with reports following the afternoon practice.
Rising sophomore receiver Sammy Watkins also met with reporters in the afternoon. Watkins discussed several things, including his offseason workouts, getting stronger, areas he needs to improve upon, and his desire to return punts as well as kicks. When asked about the new NCAA rule that moved kickoffs up 5 yards, Watkins said with a chuckle “I’m still going to take them all out. I can get past the 20.”
The Tigers are looking to build upon their 9-4 record from a season ago, and are trying to repeat as ACC champs.
