QB Connor Mitch of Raleigh will be at USC’s junior day Saturday. By the end of the day, it’s possible he’ll hold an offer from the Gamecocks. “Coach Mangus wants to get to know the quarterbacks first,” Mitch said. “There’s a good chance of getting one while I’m there.” Mitch will have his parents with him. His last visit was to LSU a couple of weeks back. He might go to North Carolina Thursday. He also has visits set with Florida April 4th, West Virginia later that same week. Alabama April 14th and Auburn April 15th. “After the Auburn visit I’ll narrow down to five or three,” Mitch said. Right now he’s not sure of any schools that will make the cut. He also has been to North Carolina, NC State, East Carolina, Alabama, and LSU. “I’ve been looking to see if I can get along with the coaches and see myself playing for them,” Mitch said. “I’m also checking out the major and the campus.” Mitch has offers from North Carolina, NC State, East Carolina, Wake Forest, Syracuse, West Virginia, South Florida, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Rutgers and LSU.
Clemson is working hard to land the trio of DE Robert Nkemdiche, RB Wayne Gallman and DB David Kamara of Loganville, GA, and the Tigers just might pull it off. “Me and Robert might try and go to the same place, and Wayne likes Clemson a lot,” Kamara said. “We all like Clemson a lot. I’d say it’s a seven or an eight chance (out of 10) that we all pick Clemson. We all want to go to Clemson, but it’s where we each feel most at home. I know for me and Wayne, Clemson leads. And Clemson is in Robert’s top five. Clemson and LSU lead for Robert.” Nkemdiche, rated by some the top player in the nation for 2013, has set May 18th for his announcement and has said he knows his decision. The other two have not decided on a commitment date. Kamara said he’d like to do it sometime between now and summer. He has visited Clemson twice and has also been to LSU. He has no other visits planned. He will not make it to Clemson’s spring game because his prom is that night, but he said Gallman plans to make the game. Kamara said he last talked to Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney last Wednesday. Kamara has offers from Clemson, Ole Miss and Mississippi State and said Clemson and Ole Miss are recruiting him the hardest. Kamara knows Nkemdiche is the big attraction at Grayson High, and he compares him favorably to the 2011 national #1 prospect, DE Jadeveon Clowney of USC. “I think Robert is better than Clowney,” he said. “He can use pure speed to come off the edge, or use pure power. He was double and triple teamed and still had 18 sacks (last season).” Nkemdiche is also considering LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss and Georgia. Gallman also has offers from USC, Georgia Tech, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Georgia.
USC held its first major scrimmage of the spring Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium and among the prospects on hand was DE Devin Bellamy (6-5 215) of Chamblee, GA. Bellamy is also a basketball prospect as a combo-forward. He has been offered by USC and the Gamecocks wants to take a closer look at him in camp this summer. LB Jalen Stephens of Goose Creek also attended the scrimmage, His teammate, DE Gerald Turner, did not make it in.
OL Andy Dodd of Lindale, GA committed to Alabama. USC was one of his offers.
