DE Dane Rogers (6-3 245) of Shelby, NC has offers from Clemson, NC State, Tennessee, North Carolina and Rutgers. He’s also getting interest from Florida, Duke and Wake Forest. Rogers has visited Clemson and wants to get back for a spring practice. He has also visited NC State and North Carolina and wants to get to Florida and Tennessee. Clemson is high up on his list, especially since his cousin, DL Carlos Watkins, will be a freshman there this season. “I’ve liked Clemson ever since I went there and saw them play Florida State,” he said. “It was a great experience for me. It was my first college game, a wonderful atmosphere. I’m so proud of my cousin committing there. I get to go back there and him play and I think about that could be me out there.” Rogers said he doesn’t have a favorite and won’t rush a decision. He wants to take his official visits first. Last season he had 120 tackles with 5 sacks.
LB Ben Boulware of TL Hanna visited Clemson Saturday and picked up an offer from the Tigers. Head coach Dabo Swinney offered Boulware as an inside linebacker. “Everybody said I was going to get one but it was still kind of exciting to get it, it was great,” Boulware said. Boulware also has offers from South Florida, Stanford, Ole Miss, Duke, Wake Forest, Louisville, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Maryland, Minnesota and Connecticut. And while he has family ties to Clemson with his brother a member of the Tigers baseball team, Boulware says right now it’s not a lock he’ll choose Clemson. “I’m looking at everything I’ve gotten,” he said. “I’m staying in the process.” Boulware said he will visit Alabama next weekend and Notre Dame the weekend after that. He has also seen USC, Georgia, NC State and North Carolina. He said he does not have favorites right now.
QB Connor Mitch of Raleigh, NC took an unofficial visit to LSU over the weekend and picked up an offer from head coach Les Miles. “I had an awesome time today,” Mitch said. “Coach Miles is an awesome man. He sat down with my family and just talked for an hour and a half. But the highlight of my day was the Honey Badger (Tyrann Mathieu) saying what’s up to me.” Mitch also has offers from East Carolina, NC State, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Syracuse, West Virginia, South Florida, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Rutgers. USC is showing interest in Mitch and he plans to visit for a junior day March 31st. He has been to Alabama and he also plans to visit West Virginia.
Visiting Clemson today were DE Robert Nkemdiche and teammate DB David Kamara, and DE Antonio Riles of Lawrenceville, GA. The Tigers did offer Kamara which is important in the recruiting of Nkemdiche.
QBs Connor Mitch of Raleigh and Kevin Olsen of Wayne, NJ will visit USC later this month. They have not been offered by the Gamecocks but expect both to get offers on their visits.
USC assistant coach Michael Boynton went directly to Texas to scout junior college prospects. And Boynton is scheduled to fly to New York Saturday to visit with 6-3 Thaddeus Hall of Brooklyn. The Gamecocks have one signee for the 2012 class in 6-9 Tyrone Haughton of Miami. They have three more scholarships available at this point. That will be reduced to two if Bruce Ellington decides to play only basketball and comes off his football scholarship.
