Ready or not spring football is here. Clemson cranks things up tomorrow and Tigers head man Dabo Swinney joined the media on a conference call today to preview the upcoming drills. We have posted the teleconference audio below. Be forewarned, this is Swinney here, so you need to make sure you have about thirty minutes blocked off to listen to all of it. Not that is isn’t worth it, to Swinney’s credit, he remains entertaining during most all of his long winded pressers, this one included.
Just in case you can’t listen to it all, a couple of the points of interest include:
Linebacker Tony Steward lost his appeal to the NCAA for a medical hardship. He tore his ACL last season, but played too much, at least in the NCAA’s eyes to get his freshman year back. He will be a true sophomore next season.
It looks like troubled running back Mike Bellamy is working his way out of Swinney’s dog house. Bellamy was sent home the night before the ACC Championship game and has not practiced with the team since. Swinney said today Bellamy has done what was asked of him this offseason and will be back on the field when the team opens practice tomorrow. Swinney said this is an important spring for the rising sophomore.
And linebacker Colton Walls, the son of former Carolina Panthers tight end Wesley Walls, is leaving the team. Swinney said Walls was behind a lot of guys at his position.
