USC tight end recruit Jerrell Adams of Scotts Branch has been cleared by the NCAA for freshman eligibility. His former high school coach Leonard Johnson confirmed Thursday that Adams had been approved to join the Gamecock program.
Adams had hoped to enroll in school in January but was unable to while the NCAA Clearinghouse dealt with his paperwork. He now intends to enroll for first session of summer school.
Adams signed with USC in February of 2011 but did not qualify and spent a semester at Fork Union Prep, VA. He was a Shrine Bowl performer in 2010 leading his team to a state championship. He caught three touchdown passes in the Shrine Bowl. Adams also can play defensive end.
