Oklahoma co-defensive coordinator Brent Venables, according to a Saturday afternoon report on the Tulsa World website, is believed to have been on Clemson’s campus Saturday to interview for the Tigers’ defensive coordinators job. The paper cited sources close to the Oklahoma program but offered no firm confirmation that Venables was at Clemson.
Those same sources said the Clemson job is Venables to turn down. Venables also had an offer from West Virginia for its defensive coordinators job but withdrew his name Friday.
The report stated Clemson could “at least double his salary.” Venables makes 440-thousand dollars per year at Oklahoma.
Venables is believed to be unhappy with the addition this week of Mike Stoops, brother of Sooners head coach Bob Stoops, as co-defensive coordinator.
