Dabo Swinney met with the media this morning to recap the season and the recent departure of Kevin Steele. As far as clarity on the circumstances of Steele leaving, we didn’t get much of that. Swinney said he didn’t fire Steele and that Steele didn’t quit. He cited a philosophical difference between the two and said both decided it was time to move on. Steele will be paid the remainder of his contract, which is about 1.5 million dollars.
As far as Steele’s replacement, Swinney said there are four of five names that are very intriguing to him, but he did not divulge them. He said his plan is to hire “the best guy” and
Swinney said he doesn’t expect any other staff changes. He the rumor that strength and conditioning coach Joey Batson was on his way out to bed. Swinney said the talk that Batson is to blame for the team’s issues is coming from insane fans on the internet. Swinney said Batson is one of the best strength coaches in the business.
Swinney also said there is nothing to the rumor that there is friction between offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell and offensive coordinator.
