USC football coach Steve Spurrier has two openings to fill on his staff, and a source said Wednesday he’s in no hurry to fill the positions. In fact, the source said it could be after National Signing Day before hires are made.
Foremost on Spurrier’s agenda this week is knee replacement surgery. So, there are no job interviews taking place this week. “He’s not on the verge of anything,” the source said adding that there are no strong candidates for the running back position, and the situation for the linebackers job is even less clear at this time.
USC needs a replacement for running backs coach Jay Graham who is now at Tennessee, and for linebackers coach Ellis Johnson who is now the head coach at Southern Miss.
