The USC football team went through an early two hour workout Saturday morning. Following practice defensive players and coaches were made available to the media. Associate head coach over defensive Ellis Johnson opted not to speak to reporters. He’s been linked to the head coaching vacancy at Southern Miss and left through the side gate at the practice facility without answering questions.
We did catch up with Brad Lawing, Devin Taylor, Stephon Gilmore and Melvin Ingram. That audio is at the bottom of the page.
Among the items of interest coming out of the practice:
- According to football spokesman Steve Fink, all of the players are good to go in terms of academics. Final grades have posted and everyone should be eligible for the bowl game.
- Stephon Gilmore said he still has not received his NFL draft advisory paperwork back yet. He wasn’t sure when it would arrive and said he’s still mulling whether or not he will enter the NFL draft this year.
- Devin Taylor also has not received his paperwork back. He too is still mulling the decision and said he is essentially 50-50 on his choice to return or go pro. Players have until January 15th to declare for the draft.
- USC will practice again tomorrow afternoon.
